Warning the inspection tech about a loud horn is a good idea.

I always warn the tech about the horn so he isn't startled by it - especially when I take it up first thing in the morning.

Took Mrs McMike's car up for a safety and emissions inspection earlier today. I like to get there when they open, so I can get in-and-out in the shortest time possible. This morning, I was the first one there, and waited for the sleepy staff to arrive.

After I warned him about the horn, I expected him to give a little toot outside before pulling it in. Nope, not this guy. He nodded his head, smirked, and pulled right into the bay. Once he was in there, he laid on the horn and scared the shit out of everyone in the other bays. Tools and coffee were dropped.

Love that guy.

Classic. You have to like a place where the guys can joke with each other without someone getting their panties in a knot over some spilled coffee.

I remember those days. My family would always go to the same gas station for inspection so we'd get a passing inspection sticker. They'd worry that the rust would be too great on the Torino for a passing sticker but Marty would always look past that rust. The car always passed the emissions and steering inspection.

I've lived in Nevada for almost 20 years (wow, had''t thought about that before!) and they only have emission testing in Las Vegas and Reno. I moved out of Las Vegas last year so there's no inspection at all on our cars. When I moved to Nevada, I wondered how many unsafe jalopies were on the street. Lots!

Some of my fondest memories were from my father's Cadillac. He used to let me ride on his lap and hold the wheel to pretend like I was driving (Don't try any of that these days, though!). Through memories like this, that rectangular '80s styling and big, proud laureled crest on the hood will forever be ingrained into my subconscious.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that this really struck a chord with me.
